THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
You need to be able to write clear, grammatically correct English for the text on your website or you need to get someone to do it for you. Badly written text with spelling mistakes is taboo. It creates an unprofessional impression of your business and it will do you more harm than good.
As mentioned earlier, text for a website is different from text in a book, newspaper or magazine. When people are viewing the information on websites they tend not to read it fully. They just scan the page quickly looking for headings and bullet points to see what the page is about. Only when there is text information of specific interest will they take the trouble to read it all.
Where search engine optimization is important the text must be written with this in mind. Keywords and phrases must be placed in the right places to enable the search engines to pick them up and there must be sufficient text to feed the search engine robots when they visit your website.
Professional website content writers and researchers are also available but they are not cheap. Some web designers (including Toucher Web Design) will also write website copy for you. If you are not used to writing creatively and you are otherwise busy it may be worth biting the bullet and paying someone to do it for you. This will save you a lot of time and the content will almost certainly be well written and better than you could produce yourself.
Having good, interesting content on your website is extremely important. In some ways it is more important than the design of your website. There is a saying in this business, "Substance over Style", which tells the story. Business websites do not need to be flashy. They do need to tell people about your business and what you can offer them.
If you do not provide the content and information that your prospective clients require then they won't dally for long after they arrive. Let's assume that the website content has been optimised to be found for the search term management training Philadelphia. If someone does a search for this it is reasonable to assume that they are looking for a management training company in the Philadelphia area.
If your website comes up in the results they will expect it to provide good information and content about your company and the services that it provides. If it is badly written with limited content they will look elsewhere. Result? One prospective client lost and gone away with a subliminal message about your business being somewhat lacking. If they arrive there and they find a website with good navigation that leads them to well written content pages with full information about the service they require they will reach for the phone.
Note: for information on what information and pages to include on your website see the What to include on your website page.
